Chicken is the most popular meat on the planet (in a lifetime we’re each reckoned to eat 550 chickens) yet the vast majority of it (97% in this country) is produced in conditions which are far from appetising. This makes the meat quick to produce and cheap to sell, but we’re not sure it makes it good to taste or good for you (we know it’s not good for the chicken).

Because we want to eat meat that has been produced well and locally, we set about doing it ourselves and we’ve quickly found that lots of other local people want the same as us."

A small number of Organic Free Range Chickens are raised each month. They are a French breed called SASSO Farm Ranger and are one of the most suitable for free-range, organic table chicken production. They are brown feathered, yellow skinned birds who like to roam far from their coup – hence their name. The meat is firm textured and traditionally flavoured.
